BESTeam feature: Lotus Mira

do you love jewelry, vintage, fairies, alice, dorothy, stamps, and cuteness? if you like any of those things then you will love the shop Lotus Mira. her biggest items are pendants, which are more than your regular pendant since she incorporates vintage or classic designs in a double sided soldered pendant. you're definitely getting your moneys worth with these! ♥ now, here is her interview:

What's your favorite color?
Purple! I also love deep, exotic color combinations, like purple/red/gold. Reminds me of the richest sari fabric!

[click pictures to view listings. most pieces are double sided, so go check out what their other side is!]

What inspires you?
So many things. I like things that speak of quirky-ness, campy-ness, geeky-ness, vintage imagery, the chaos of collage, and the simple beauty of something classic.

What do you love most about what you do?
Etsy has an amazing community and an amazing variety of creativity on display every day - it's been wonderful to delve into this community, meeting people and getting inspired! Every day I see something new that makes me want to learn a new trick, a new skill, or pick up an entirely new medium or hobby!

Is Etsy part-time, full-time, or hobby for you? How do you balance it with everything else?
I suppose it's best described as a hobby, though I think that word is often too easily allowed to undermine the work and time that any artist necessarily puts into even the simplest of his or her pieces. I am "primarily" a graduate student, earning a law degree and masters, currently taking a summer economics course and interning at a think tank that works primarily on intellectual property issues. (Today, I'm doing work related to a proposed treaty to help get the print-disabled (the blind, etc.) access to more books!) I love what I do, but I have to admit that, in times as busy as these (my husband and I are also preparing for a move!), my Etsy work does get set aside. I am just as dedicated to filling orders, of course, but I have to shelve some ideas for new projects until a better time. Still - I'd hate to put them off too long; crafting is an important outlet for my creative side, especially since my day-to-day is SO left-brained!

What are your top favorite blogs or websites?
Well, I love I ♥ Handmade right now. :) All my other favs are boring law/policy stuff!

What are your current projects?
Alas, so many of them are on hold. But I am anxious to start making bookmarks and some new mixed media (french-dictionary-paper combined with lace and beads, etc) pendants. I also recently got some equipment for metal-stamping, which I think will be fun to combine with my traditional soldered artwork.

How did you get started w/your Etsy shop (what made you open it)?
I love to craft and experiment, but I found myself holding back because I was making more than I could personally use - so Etsy became a great way to enter a crafting community, share my pieces, and inspire me to keep working on new things.

Do you have any promo's or sales going on right now?
As my store is only a couple of months old, I am still running some grand opening promos. Recommendations, following my blog, "liking" my facebook page, and being among the first to buy my super-fun double-sided four-paneled bracelets can all get you discounts! Also, when my blog hits 75 followers, I will do a give-away there, and I'm offering all sorts of ways for people to be double-entered, triple-entered, and more!
