weekend cleansing

this weekend i tackled my closet. somehow it always seems to get out of control. clothes piled up all over each other with minimal organization, belts and scarves intermixed in the clothing, etc. not a pretty sight. this picture is my closet about 2 years ago, but it basically looked along these lines, just with more clothes piled up.

ok, a lot more clothes piled up... it was a bit cuckoo. and i had clothes and shoes spilling out all over the floor in front of my closet. granted, i had been panicking earlier that day about which shoes to wear to my first day at work, so that accounted for at least half of the mess on the floor. anyways, needless to say it was a little out of control, and it made me feel like i had less clothes than i really have (since it was hard to find stuff). so i literally pulled out all my clothes from the shelves and went through everything. i made a separate pile of clothing that i don't wear anymore but could repurpose in some way. everything else was categorized, and then placed in an organized way back up on the shelves. to motivate myself to actually KEEP it this way, i whipped out the label maker.

yes, i label-makered my closet. josh was making fun of me "oh no...here we go with the label maker..." but i just ignored him [or made some certain hand symbols in his direction...]. i felt so much better when i was done with this project. every time i look in my closet now i get all happy, and feel super organized. the thing is i can be very good at organizing, the only problem is i have a bit of hoarder* in me that makes things get out of control.

cheers to organization. and label makers. and now that it's all public, here's to making it last! haha

*we watch hoarders all the time, i'm sort of obsessed with it. and almost every episode josh says "thats like you, jess" about some little aspect or other. thankfully my ocd husband is here to keep me in check. otherwise i might make my reality tv debut on A&E, which can never be that good...right?

OMG! The amazing labels you have created and oh, the organization! I am SO not an organized person by nature, so I would definitely have to take extra measures to make this sort of cleanliness happen. My closet is a WRECK! I guess I justify it cause no one ever sees it, but I could use my space so much more efficiently! It just seems I can always come up with much better things to do than organizing my closet, ugh. Thanks for the inspiration, ha!

Can you come to my house and do that to my closet? We watch Hoarders too, my oldest daughter is a bit of a hoarder and we have to have "sessions" with her from time to time...she will keep anything because she says it has a memory, I haven't had her watch the show with us yet, but I think it's time. Have a lovely day!

I did the exact same thing to my closet yesterday (minus the labels). Once I pulled everything out and went through it I found shirts that I forgot I had because I haven't worn them in months (they were long sleeved and therefor shoved to the back as they weren't needed this summer). I'll be working on keeping the closet looking nice right there with you.

Ha! I love that you took a label maker to your closet. I've found that when I'm feeling all cranky pants about not having anything to wear if I clean my clothes closet I realize really fast that I have a ton and should stop acting like Veruca Salt.

I can't watch Hoarders it makes me skin crawl since I am an anti-Hoarder and my husband has to stop me from getting rid of everything.

We watch hoarders ALL THE TIME! Zoe actually got me hooked on it because she loves to watch wierd shows like that! We are always joking that I am a hoarder because my entire room is full of stuff "that I will eventually make something out of".... Yeah, kinda sad... :)

haha all i know is that one of the first things josh ever told me about you was that you always had things falling out of your closest. haha and i said, "that's like dave!" and then we discussed how much we like cleaning and clorox wipes.

i say hoarding is always ok as long as you can keep it organized. i'm loving the closet labels!

Do you think you could help your dad out...garage, closet, kitchen counter (he has officially confiscated it)? Thanks.

i am ridiculously jealous of your closet organization. that was totally on my 'to do' list this weekend...but so was cleaning out my crafty stash (eegads!) and doing massive, massive amounts of laundry. so yeah, needles to say, it didn't happen!

Congrats on your closet labels girl. That's basically genius!! I have the same problem with the belts and the tights and the t-shirts. It's a freaking bloody mess if I can't find what I'm looking for. Think tornado.

And, uh, is it abnormal to watch hoarders and 5-10 minutes in think...holy cow that could be me.

My bf always looks at me with the raised eyebrow and I promptly devise a list of things to throw out!!

xoxo,
Carrie
