fab friday: go green

if you want to know some real ways to go green (not the one from joshs blog), you are in for a treat. every friday i plan on doing this new segment. it will include tips on how to live more environmentally friendly. some might be obvious, some you might already do, and some will be new to you.

1. when you go to the grocery store to get produce, realize that your bunch of bananas does not need to be in a plastic bag. or that one green pepper you need for dinner, or the one clove of garlic. now, if you have a bunch of apples or something, or you just want a bag so it will stay longer, that is understandable. but just realize that it is oftentimes unnecessary.

2. recycle everything!!! if you live in provo and want to recycle, read the the last couple paragraphs of this. other places in utah you can look at this website to find where to recycle. otherwise, google to find your nearest recycling center!! just to put recycling in perspective: the amount of energy saved by recycling one aluminum can is equal to the energy used to run your tv for 3 hours.

3. look for dish washing detergent and laundry detergent that is phosphate free. when phorphorus gets in the water system, it perpetuates plant growth. so if phosphorus gets into a pond, algae might bloom like crazy, use all the oxygen in the water, and all the fish in the pond would die. just an example.

anyways, thats it for today. stay tuned for more tips. ♥
